It’s That Time Again: New Year’s Resolutions

Since I started blogging back in 2004 (started with a personal blog, FYI), I have always posted about New Year’s resolutions around this time. Just b/c it’s 6 years later doesn’t mean there has to be any difference.

It seems that every year, I have a plethora of friends who say the same things…

I am going to start back to school…

I am going to make that move to another state…

I am going to lose all this weight that I’ve gained over _____ period of time…

And the list keeps going. All of the things that many people usually resolve are of the same vein. I stopped doing NY’s resolutions many years ago. I’ve always felt that with everyday of your life, you should be embarking on the journey of reaching your goals. Some people use the remaining days of the year to “slack” off, saying that the upcoming year will give them a fresh start.

I believe that if you want to make something happen, you put fire under your own feet and make it happen. There are a lot of things that I “hope” to accomplish this year as an EXTENSION of my goals for 2010. Nothing new, nothing that will take me until 2011 to figure out if I need. It’s all just a part of my long term plans that will stand no matter what “others” are doing for the new year.

It’s a lot that I need to work on, many things I need to “break” myself from. I ordered a few books the other day that were recommended by a few people…all of them dealing with grabbing your goals by the horns and really doing it, really (continuing) to believe in yourself. It doesn’t take a new year for me to realize how important my life’s goals are.

I am my own inspiration who just happens to seek to inspire.

Happy new year, everybody.

That was sweet. I didn’t even know you had this site. Can you tell me what some of those books are?

Jia:

The Art of Seduction, Write It Down/Make It Happen, A New Earth, etc. etc. Way too many to list.

ACSL8ER:

This is true Jia. I pretty much gave up on the whole “my new years resolution for ____ year is” idea, just like many others I never really stick with them b/c many times they are often unrealistic goals within an unrealistic time frame and with the new year comes new stress so many of the goals fall by the wayside only to be attempted to be picked up again. Anyways I’ll stop rambling on and on on your blog however I just want to add that I love your blogs you present sort of this online community that not many other blogs have. Sort of lets us vent and release some of the things we’ve been thinking about but may not have addressed yet and I just want to let you know u have my support (not like u need it but still lol). Keep up the great work and God bless!

Tammie:

A really good book to read is,,

Rich Dad Poor Dad

I know it is a little old, but great book.

Jia:

I’ve heard of that before but never read it. I will order that as well. Thank you!

Jia:

You’re wrong. I DO need your support so you’re absolutely appreciated! Thank you so much!

I have got to get into your this blog a lot more.

I was one of those same people who would make those statements regaruding my New Years Resolution. I stopped doing them about a 2 years ago. I found that putting myself on such a stick time line was doing more harm than good. When the holiday season rolls around again and I am left to reflect on my life in yesterdays past, I often feel as if I failed myself. To me, personally, that is a feeling lower than anything I have ever experienced.

Once I stopped going myself a deadline for my goals, things started happening that would have never happened had a tried to force it. I have gotten more opportunities within the last two years than I have while under the spell of a New Years Resolution.

All in all I think that some things happens at certain times in our lives for a reason and to put a cap on those things would be setting ourselves up for failure.

I am free to experience life with the worries of a time-line.

Lyssa Honey:

it’s statistically proven that a goal you set on any other day besides New Years Eve & New Years, you are more likely to accomplish…. I leave the NY Resolutions alone for a reason lol! happy holidays mama
